I have a new girl working with us, unfortunately for her and no fault to her she has been thrown in the deep end. she is only 15 I am struggling to try to keep a busy Q in order and advise her. I did some work with her last week luckily it was fairly quiet on site also my daughter was in too so we could manage the Q and teach but it hasnt been long enough.
I am not sure when my manager took her on whether he even considered if she was arty! she was on the waiting list so could have been put anywhere like restuarant work but we were in need of another painter as we had been let down by the previous girl who i started to train in Easter, who proved to be a little un reliable, liking her social life a bit too much when in with my daughter she would have a hang over and then sadly her sister became ill ,and is recieving chemo I agreed to cover her for a few weekends and to keep work in the loop. Though I think she used her sisters illness to her advantage not to sound mean as I totally understand how it must of been , but to tell me you are spending time by your sisters bed side then Tagged in photos and twitter messages either at parties or days out at theme park gets you a bit annoyed when i have covered sundays for her and turning my own private work down.My daughter missed out on Work days, when the the girl in question was supposed to have worked. Anyway work kept leaving her messages out of concern but also to see when she would return to work as she was booked in to re-train before the start of the busy season in which she never showed, she eventually emailed work to say she was withdrawing her postion as she hadnt appreciated them keep contacting whilst she was going through a tough time , not once did she reply to let them know , anyway we were left in it .
I was quite prepared with my daughter to manage between us if we could have a saturday off which is a quiet day and one day in the week ....but no as he didnt want to have a day in the week with no painting as it would look bad .....though it looks bad on the days when it is only one of us with the new girl and a big Q poor girl who cant really paint many designs to a good quality yet, management will not put 3 painters on even on busy days . I really dont want to go in today My daughter is working in the restaurant I want her with me ;( I can see its going to be a very long season .....HELP ....thanks just needed to let of steam....and breath |

sounds like she was more effort than she was worth when you needed your energy for work and maybe someone whou wouldnt take the......Michael
Maybe your manager would have been better leaving it to you to source a new starter and at least you would have been able to get someone with a bit of "nouse" and enthusiasm for it.
Hope you get to find someone, how about your local art college?

Well we have had two less manic days thankfully so able to guide her a bit more, so slight progress couple of times I have had to bail her out .Trying to steer her away from using the DFX white as it was getting a bit too clumpy and wet So I keep hiding it I have been so lucky as my last 2 girls were studying art and wanted to be childrens book illustrators so had natural flare. Rome wasnt built in a day she is trying poor kid a bit more work we will get there ....hopefully, besides her level is not so different as some faces I have seen supposedly adverising as business ...of course no one on here . |

Your manager sounds like a right plonker.

summed it up in one Paula he makes such a big deal over things at times and is big on contradicting himself.
And yes a couple of girls have been15 in the past but this year (we) I made a point of not having a young one as sundays are a bugger as they can only work 2 hours. My daughter was 15 when she started she is now 17 very proud how she has come on though face painting is not her passion its just a job to her. We started the season with an almost 18 year old, as mentioned before but didnt work out. |
